Classes, work suspended in Pangasinan Aug. 4 due to 'Luis'

LINGAYEN, Pangasinan – Gov. Ramon V. Guico III suspended classes in schools and work in government offices in Pangasinan on Tuesday, Aug. 4, due to tropical cyclone ‘’Luis’’ and the southwest monsoon or ‘’habagat.’’
Guico, in Executive Order No. 71, Series of 2026, signed Monday, said the suspension was prompted by the latest PAGASA weather forecast that warned that Pangasinan could receive more than 200 millimeters of rainfall from Aug. 3 until noon of Aug. 4.
Another 100 to 200 millimeters of rainfall is expected from Aug. 4 to Aug. 5, increasing the risk of flooding, flash floods, and landslides, PAGASA said.
Guico said the provincial government aims to ensure the safety and welfare of learners, teaching and non-teaching personnel, government employees, and the public with the decision.
Schools were directed to implement Learning and Service Continuity Plans (LSCPs), including modular distance learning, performance tasks, or make-up classes, as appropriate.
Work in private companies and offices remains at the discretion of management. The provincial government encouraged the private sector to suspend work to enable employees to prioritize preparedness and safety.
Agencies providing frontline and emergency services, including health, disaster response, and security, shall continue operations, the provincial government said.
