A low-pressure area (LPA) inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) is unlikely to develop into a tropical cyclone within the next 24 hours, but will continue to bring rains over parts of Luzon and the Visayas through its trough, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Saturday, Aug. 1.
PAGASA weather specialist Veronica Torres said the LPA was last spotted at 3 a.m., about 960 kilometers east of Southeast Luzon.
“May mino-monitor tayong low-pressure area na nasa loob ng ating Philippine Area of Responsibility at kaninang alas tres ng madaling araw huling namataan may layong 960 km silangan ng Southeast Luzon (We are monitoring a low-pressure area inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility, which was last spotted at 3 a.m. about 960 kilometers east of Southeast Luzon),” she said.
“Itong LPA na ito ay nananatiling mababa ang tyansa na maging isang ganap na bagyo in the next 24 hours (This LPA remains unlikely to develop into a tropical cyclone within the next 24 hours),” she added.
PAGASA said the weather disturbance is not expected to directly affect any part of the country.
“Wala rin naman itong diretsong epekto sa kahit anong parte ng bansa pero ang kanyang trough o extension ang nagpapaulan sa ibang bahagi ng silangan ng Luzon at bahagi ng silangan ng Visayas (It has no direct effect on any part of the country, but its trough or extension is bringing rains over parts of eastern Luzon and eastern Visayas),” she said.
As such, Torres said PAGASA is not monitoring any other weather disturbance within or near the country’s area of responsibility.
“Aside sa LPA na ito, wala na tayong ibang mino-monitor na LPA o bagyo sa loob o malapit sa ating PAR (Aside from this LPA, we are not monitoring any other low-pressure area or tropical cyclone inside or near the PAR),” she went on.
The state weather bureau said the trough of the LPA is expected to bring rains over the Bicol Region, Quezon, and Marinduque.
It advised residents in areas that have experienced days of rainfall to remain alert for possible flooding and landslides.
“Inaasahan natin sa may Bicol Region, Quezon, at Marinduque, magpapaulan ’yung trough ng LPA. Kaya sa mga lugar na inuulan noong mga ilang araw pa ay pinagiingat sa mga banta ng pagbaha o pagguho ng lupa (The trough of the LPA is expected to bring rains over the Bicol Region, Quezon, and Marinduque. Residents in areas that have been experiencing rain over the past several days are advised to remain vigilant against possible flooding and landslides),” said Torres.
Meanwhile, PAGASA said Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon are expected to experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with chances of afternoon or evening thunderstorms.
“Para sa Metro Manila at nalalabing bahagi ng Luzon, partly cloudy to cloudy skies ang ating inaasahan at mga tyansa ng thunderstorms pagdating ng hapon (For Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon, we expect partly cloudy to cloudy skies with chances of thunderstorms in the afternoon),” she said.
PAGASA said rains are likely to persist over parts of Southern Luzon in the coming days.
“Tomorrow, inaasahan natin na posibleng maging maulan sa Bicol Region at Quezon. By Monday at Tuesday, posibleng maging maulan sa CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, at Bicol Region. At pagdating ng Wednesday, posibleng maulan sa Central Luzon, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, at Bicol Region (Tomorrow, rainy conditions are expected over the Bicol Region and Quezon. By Monday and Tuesday, rains are likely over CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, and the Bicol Region. By Wednesday, rainy weather may also affect Central Luzon, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, and the Bicol Region),” Torres said.
