Roadside coffin in Benguet removed after DPWH promise

BAGUIO CITY – A coffin placed on the side of the Benguet-Nueva Vizcaya Road in Barangay Ambuklao, Bokod, Benguet has been removed by village officials after the Department of Public Works and Highway-Cordillera vowed to install signs reminding motorists to drive carefully.
Barangay Chairman Rey Tello, who led the removal of the morbid reminder on the accident-prone area, thanked concerned agencies, local officials, media practitioners, and the public for supporting their call to put up traffic signs.
Officials of Barangay Ambuklao said they did not place the coffin to intimidate, offend, or disrespect people.
“It is a reminder to motorists to driving carefully on the zigzag Ambuklao Road,” they said.
They said that many motorists have figured in accidents in the area due to reckless driving.
Tello said they have recorded 10 accidents in the area since January with two fatalities.
The sign says: “Paalala: Mr. Driver, ang mamatay o mabuhay ng dahil sa iyo. INGATAN ang NAGIISANG BUHAY, MAGMANEHO NG MAHUSAY.”
(Reminder: Mr. Driver, life or death is up to you. TAKE CARE OF YOUR ONLY LIFE, DRIVE CAREFULLY.”
