Manny Pacquiao expressed his dismay over the alleged game-fixing incident that involved the Bacolod Masskara in their recent game against the Bacolod Kuyas in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) last Tuesday, July 28.
In an MPBL game where the Kuyas notched a 100-64 win over the Masskara, fans couldn't help but notice Bacolod’s shooting drought that started at the 7:48 mark of the final frame and up to the final buzzer.
This sparked speculations of game-fixing after it also went viral on social media. It also triggered an investigation with the result coming out two days later, ultimately handing permanent bans on players and coaches of Bacolod last Thursday.
The red card was a follow-up to the team’s violation through a yellow card in the early part of the season, with other squads receiving the similar penalty after a game-fixing crackdown back in 2024.
Gusto ko, mga players na maglaro with integrity and honesty,” he added.
The boxing icon also reiterated that the league has always taken great measures in credibility, integrity, and fairness of the participating teams and it is practiced by creating a team that will oversee each contest.
“Lagi akong nakasubaybay. In fact, may team akong binuo to oversee and review all the games every time na may laro,” Pacquiao continued.
MPBL vows to continue its probe against the game manipulation with the help of several government agencies.
