Bulacan Governor Daniel R. Fernando lauded the strong turnout at the provincial job fair in Malolos City last Friday, July 24, emphasizing that most applicants were young people determined to pursue their dreams.

“Marami pong mga kabataan ngayon na hindi iniisip ang kinabukasan na darating para sa kanila at kanilang mga pamilya, pero kayo po na narito ay namumukod-tangi [na] tumitindig at humahanap ng [pagkakataon para sa] inyong pangarap, hindi lang para sa inyo [kundi] para din sa inyong mga mahal sa buhay (There are many young people today who do not think about the future that will come for them and their families, but you who are here are outstanding -- standing up and seeking opportunities for your dreams, not only for yourselves but also for your loved ones),” Fernando told participants.

The event, organized by the Provincial Government of Bulacan through the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) and held at a mall in Malolos, drew 638 jobseekers vying for 959 vacancies offered by 14 agencies.

Fifteen applicants were hired on the spot, while 48 others were considered “near hires” out of the 392 qualified participants.

Among those immediately employed were Luisito Pascual Jr. of Paombong and Melody Dela Cruz of Malolos, both hired as service crew members at a fast-food chain.

Pascual said the fair gave him hope amid the difficulty of finding decent work. “Sa sobrang hirap po ngayon mag-apply ng trabaho, buti po ‘yung ating mga LGU ay nag-o-organize ng mga job fair (It is so difficult to apply for a job today, it is good that our LGUs are organizing job fairs,” he said.

Dela Cruz echoed his gratitude, saying the opportunity would help her support her family.

Fernando said he was proud that many of the attendees were young Bulakenyos who chose to take a step toward securing their future.
