Philippines, Oman agree to hold regular dialogue, high-level visits

The Philippines and Oman had agreed to maintain regular dialogue and exchange high-level visits to strengthen ties in key sectors such as trade and investment, finance, tourism and hospitality, education and training.
Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Secretary Ma. Theresa Lazaro and Omani Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamood Albusaidi held talks on the sidelines of the 3rd Philippines-Oman Investment Forum on Sunday, July 26.
"During the meeting, both Ministers explored avenues to further strengthen bilateral ties and cooperation between the Philippines and Oman, particularly in key sectors including trade and investment, finance, tourism and hospitality, education and training," the DFA said.
Both officials also agreed to maintain regular dialogue and continue the exchange of high-level visits, which, according to the DFA, have intensified in recent years.
The ministers also shared views on regional and global issues of vital importance.
During their bilateral meeting on Sunday, the officials welcomed progress on negotiations of two significant bilateral agreements— the PH-Oman Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement and the PH-Oman Avoidance of Double Taxation Agreement.
They expressed optimism for the eventual conclusion of the agreements in the coming months.
Lazaro told the Omani foreign minister that the investment forum held in Makati City on Sunday and the first two iterations demonstrate a remarkable growth in economic engagements between the Philippines and Oman.
The events, Lazaro said, have brought together top business leaders from both countries to explore business and investment opportunities.
“Our bilateral relations have been anchored on trade in energy and the valuable contributions of the Filipino community in Oman. As we look forward, we must build on this solid foundation by maximizing our positions as regional gateways and deepening our commercial ties,” Lazaro said in her keynote remarks during the forum.
The DFA chief also thanked Minister Albusaidi for his valuable participation in the commemorative activity of the 50th anniversary of the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC) held on July 24.
She further conveyed the Philippine government’s appreciation for the Sultanate’s lifting of visa requirements for Filipino tourists who wish to travel to Oman, saying the decision is a positive development expected to bolster tourism, cultural and economic cooperation, and people-to-people exchanges between the two countries.
Both Ministers expressed confidence that with the increasing engagements and collaboration between the Filipino and Omani private sectors, trade and investment between the two countries will continue to grow.
The Oman-Philippines 3rd Strategic Majlis aims to deepen bilateral cooperation and unlock new opportunities for trade, investment, and strategic collaboration between the two countries.
Among the key objectives of the Strategic Majlis are enhancing economic ties by exploring avenues to expand bilateral trade, attract investment, and promote joint ventures in priority industries; fostering diplomatic relations by reaffirming both countries' commitment to constructive dialogue, peace, stability, and shared regional and international interests; and driving innovation and collaboration.
