PUP honors Manila for education, jobs programs

The Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) has honored the Manila city government for advancing education and student employment programs, with Vice Mayor Chi Atienza receiving the award on behalf of Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso.

The recognition was given during the fourth Recognition Award for Collaborative Engagement held on July 24 at the PUP Sta. Mesa campus.

In a message delivered by Atienza, Domagoso thanked the university for acknowledging the city’s efforts and reiterated its commitment to continuing programs aimed at providing opportunities for students.

Atienza said education and employment remain among the priorities of the city government under its Minimum Basic Needs Program, which also includes health care and housing.

She added that the city plans to sustain its partnership with PUP to help ensure students have opportunities after graduation.

Atienza also said that 10 PUP students are currently undergoing on-the-job training at the Office of the Vice Mayor as part of efforts to give students practical experience in government work.

The vice mayor noted that the recognition from PUP was the second award received by Domagoso within the week, following Manila’s Special Achievement in GIS Award for its use of technology in disaster preparedness and response.

She also said her office remains open to proposed measures that would further support students and strengthen education programs in the city.
