Gen Z reportedly the least happy generation at work in Philippines

Gen Z workers in the Philippines report the lowest rate of workplace satisfaction among all demographic groups, with nearly four in 10 saying they regularly dread going to work.
The Jobstreet by SEEK Workplace Happiness Index 2025 showed that 76 percent of Gen Z employees aged 18 to 29 report feeling happy at work, lagging behind Millennials at 77 percent and Gen X at 78 percent.
The nationwide survey, conducted from October to November 2025 among workers aged 18 to 64, revealed the widening generational divide in career priorities and emotional well-being across local industries.
For Gen Z professionals, workplace satisfaction correlates most strongly with personal alignment and flexibility. Finding meaning in their roles ranks highest among satisfaction drivers for this cohort at 76 percent, followed by work-from-home arrangements at 73 percent and overall company performance at 72 percent.
Despite finding purpose in their positions, 39 percent of Gen Z respondents reported frequent anxiety and dread regarding their daily work duties. High stress levels and heavy workload demands remain the primary obstacles for younger workers navigating early career stages.
Millennial employees aged 30 to 44 prioritize supportive workplace environments and team dynamics. Within this group, 78 percent derived satisfaction from a sense of purpose, 70 percent from relationships with colleagues, and 68 percent from alignment with corporate values. The survey noted that the country’s collectivist culture reinforces the focus on community and positive peer relationships among Millennials balancing personal and professional duties.
Gen X employees aged 45 to 59 recorded the highest rate of overall job fulfillment. Satisfaction with work-life balance stood at 73 percent for this demographic, while 69 percent expressed positive views regarding career advancement opportunities and company growth. Gen X respondents were also more likely than younger colleagues to report higher workplace motivation and comfort in being themselves on the job.
Stress and burnout remain pervasive across all age groups despite overall positive baseline metrics. Across the national workforce, 77 percent of respondents reported being somewhat or extremely happy at work, positioning the Philippines among the top-ranking labor markets in the Asia-Pacific region.
“Workplace happiness means different things to different generations, but every employee wants to feel that their work has meaning and purpose,” said Dannah Majarocon, Managing Director of Jobstreet by SEEK in the Philippines. Employers must adjust human resource strategies to address varying generational expectations rather than adopting uniform policies.
