Newly opened convenience store loses P20,000 to scammer

ZAMBOANGA CITY – A newly opened convenience here store lost P20,000 to a scammer who used the name of Mayor Khymer Olaso of this city on Sunday, July 12.

Olaso confirmed that the amount was taken from the store via an online transaction by a person who introduced himself as a representative from the Mayor's Office.  

He said that he cannot pay for the amount because he was not involved in the transaction.

Olaso urged store owners and personnel to be cautious against fraudsters or scammers.

He warned scammers, who he believes are from out-of-town, of consequences.

"Pag mahuli ko kayo putulin ko daliri ninyo, kahit matanggal pa ako sa pagka-mayor."

(I will cut your fingers if you are caught even if I lose my job as mayor)

Police are conducting follow-up investigation.
