RELIEF aid from Cotabato arrives in Malita, Davao Occidental (PIA-Davao)
DAVAO CITY – The provincial government of Cotabato delivered on Saturday, June 13, emergency relief aid to earthquake-hit areas in Davao Occidental, General Santos City, Sarangani, and South Cotabato.
Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office chief Abril Espadera said the provincial government sent 10 trucks of relief aid.
Espadera said two trucks are water tankers as water supply is still scarce in Sarangani following the magnitude-7.8 earthquake on June 8.
The contingent, headed by Vice Gov. Ella Taray, delivered a total of 1,350 bags of rice, according to the PDRRMO chief.
The 16 towns of the province contributed a total of 850 sacks of rice at 25 kilos each bag. The biggest contributor was Makilala with 100 bags. Makilala was one of the heavily-devastated towns in the province during the 2019 earthquake.
The provincial government also added 500 bags of rice weighing 50 kilos each.
Espadera said the contingent also delivered relief aid gathered through a donation drive launched by the province on June 10.
He said most of the relief aid were delivered to the heavily-affected towns of Glan in Sarangani and Jose Abad Santos (JAS) in Davao Occidental.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in Davao region reported that the earthquake has affected 61,797 individuals in the region, 50,000 of them are in Davao Occidental.
Twelve persons were killed and 40 were injured in the earthquake. Several others are still missing due to landslides.
A total of 2,437 houses have been damaged, 325 totally. Many of these damaged houses are in JAS.
The earthquake killed 30 people in Sarangani and affected over 270, 000 individuals as of 6 p.m. on June 12. Twenty fatalities are from the coastal town of Glan and eight from the neighboring town Malapatan. Ten others are missing. At least 5,000 houses were totally damaged and over 17,000 were partially damaged.
