Aurora resort where Baterbonia, Adili drowned temporarily closed
RESORT closed following drowning of two Ateneo cagers.
DIPACULAO, Aurora — The municipal government ordered the temporary closure of Hermanos Leisure and Farm Resort where Ateneo Blue Eagles basketball players Rene Clert N. Baterbonia and Divine Adili stayed and drowned during a team-building activity on June 8.
The closure order was issued after Mayor Danilo A. Tolentino directed a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident to ensure the safety of residents and visitors in tourist destinations in the municipality.
A composite inspection team composed of representatives from the Business Permits and Licensing Office (BPLO), Municipal Tourism Office (MTO), Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), and the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) conducted an extensive assessment of the resort’s operations and safety measures.
The assessment found out that the resort failed to comply with several important provisions and safety requirements outlined in Sangguniang Bayan Ordinance No. 2025-12 designed to promote safety in seashores, bodies of water, and tourism-related establishments within Dipaculao.
Officials said the Temporary Closure Order is part of broader efforts to strictly enforce existing regulations and ensure that tourism establishments maintain safety standards necessary to protect guests, particularly in areas involving water-based activities.
The municipal government has condoled with the families, friends, teammates, and loved ones of the two student-athletes.
Authorities vowed to intensify safety monitoring and coordination with concerned agencies to help prevent similar tragedies in the future.
