A magnitude 5.3 earthquake struck Bicol region at 9:57 p.m. on Friday, June 5, with its epicenter traced 15 kilometers southeast of Santo Domingo, Albay, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
In its Earthquake Information No. 2, Phivolcs said the quake was originally recorded at magnitude 5.4 before being downgraded to 5.3.
It originated at a depth of 9 kilometers.
The quake was felt at Intensity V (strong) in Santo Domingo and the City of Legazpi in Albay, as well as in Castilla, Sorsogon; Intensity IV (moderately strong) in the City of Tabaco, City of Ligao, and Malilipot in Albay, and in Cogon, Irosin, and Donsol in Sorsogon; Intensity III (weak) in the City of Naga, Camarines Sur; Malinao, Albay; and the City of Sorsogon, Prieto Diaz, and Juban in Sorsogon; and Intensity II (slightly felt) in Goa, Camarines Sur, and Bulan, Sorsogon.
Instrumental intensity readings, which are based on sensor data, showed Intensity VI (very strong) in Tabaco City, Albay; Intensity IV in the City of Sorsogon, Sorsogon, and Iriga City, Camarines Sur; Intensity III in Prieto Diaz, Sorsogon; Monreal, Masbate; and Sagnay, Sipocot, Pili, and Mercedes, Camarines Sur; and Intensity II in Pasacao and Ragay, Camarines Sur; Milagros, Masbate; San Roque, Northern Samar; and Gandara, Samar.
Phivolcs warned that aftershocks are possible following the earthquake.
