SUYO, Ilocos Sur – A man wanted for theft was killed during a shootout with police serving a warrant of arrest in Sitio Lipay, Barangay Urzadan, here on Thursday, June 4.
Police Capt. Godofredo Ribuyaco, chief of the Suyo Municipal Police Station, identified the suspect as Jun.
Ribuyaco said Jun allegedly fired at police officers serving a warrant of arrest for a theft case with a P40,000 bail. Police returned fire and wounded the suspect in the body.
The suspect was taken to the Tagudin District Hospital where he was declared dead.
Recovered from the suspect was a caliber .38 revolver.
Ribuyaco said the suspect was considered armed and dangerous and faced theft cases in Bohol, Baguio City, and Santa Lucia and Suyo, Ilocos Sur, as well as robbery and anti-carnapping cases.
Police said the suspect was allegedly involved in the theft of about 10 vehicle batteries with the latest incident reported on May 29 in Poblacion, Suyo.
Investigators learned that although the suspect was from Bohol, he reportedly had a girlfriend in Santa Lucia which may have resulted into his continued stay in the province.
Police are conducting further investigation.
Meanwhile, a 33-year-old man was shot dead in Barangay Capangdanan, Bantay, Ilocos Sur on Thursday afternoon.
Police identified the victim as Ben from Barangay Rugsuanan, Vigan City, Ilocos Sur.
Investigation said the victim was grazing his cow when he was shot. The victim was found sprawled beside his motorcycle.
The victim was taken to a hospital where he was declared dead. Investigation of this incident is ongoing.
