DAVAO CITY – The Davao City government will procure 20 additional electric buses for the Davao Interim Bus Service under the proposed Supplemental Budget No. 1 for fiscal year 2026.
Davao City Information Office head Harvey Lanticse confirmed on Thursday, May 28, that Davao City Mayor Sebastian Duterte ordered the expansion of the DC Bus fleet.
Committee on Finance, Ways and Means, and Appropriations chairman Councilor Danilo Dayanghirang announced the move during the Pulong-Pulong sa Dabawenyos on May 26.
Dayanghirang said that P200 million has been allocated for the procurement of additional buses under the City Administrator’s Office social development fund.
He said the city plans to digitize the interim bus system by developing a platform that will provide real-time bus locations to commuters, reducing wait times and improving travel efficiency.
“Our population is two million, so therefore, I think the mayor decided to purchase an additional 20 buses to aid the commuters in their regular travel from one place to another,” Dayanghirang said.
He clarified that the P200-million allocation is a general amount that will still undergo public bidding. The digitalization component of the bus operations will also be sourced from the same fund.
Dayanghirang added that the city government is also eyeing the establishment of its own electric charging centers for the buses.
Under the development fund of the City Engineer’s Office, P54.7 million has also been allocated for the construction of a DC Interim Bus Service depot with drainage systems and other land improvements along the Davao City Coastal Road.
The Davao City Council approved on second reading the proposed P1.25-billion Supplemental Budget No. 1 for 2026 during its regular session on Tuesday, May 26.
Dayanghirang recommended the approval of the proposed supplemental budget amounting to P1,253,541,058.86.
He said the supplemental budget prioritizes immediate city needs, including social services and infrastructure projects.
Among the top priorities under the SB 1 are the digitalization of the bus system and the procurement of a tow truck capable of carrying 10-wheel trucks to address illegally parked large vehicles.
The proposed supplemental budget, endorsed by Mayor Duterte on May 18, was referred to the committee following its first reading on May 20.
Of the total amount, P811.37 million came from surplus operations in calendar year 2025, while P442.16 million came from reversions of current and prior years’ appropriations under the General Fund Proper and Development Fund.
Under the proposed appropriations, the General Fund Proper received the largest amount, amounting to P891.65 million.
The City Administrator’s Office obtained the highest allocation at P338.39 million, followed by the City Social Welfare and Development Office with P336.68 million, and the City Mayor’s Office with P78.7 million.
Dayanghirang said the allocation for the City Social Welfare and Development Office will support senior citizens, solo parents, and Persons with Disabilities.
He said that government offices were encouraged to conduct training and seminars within the city, following the controversy over the office’s training and seminar budget in 2024.
The Development Fund received P333.25 million, including P133.25 million for infrastructure projects and P200 million for the additional DC interim buses.
Among the infrastructure allocations are P15 million for the city’s urban greening and cooling program and P34 million for the construction of a landslide mitigation structure at the existing landfill in Barangay New Carmen, Tugbok District.
Additional projects include P21 million for road concreting with drainage systems at DDF Village in Barangay Mandug, Buhangin District, and P8.5 million for road concreting at Purok Galas, Sitio Bucana, Talomo District.
Economic Enterprises, meanwhile, got P28.63 million for the operations of public markets, slaughterhouses, cemeteries, the Davao City Recreation Center, and Santa Ana Port.
