The search for exemplary Filipinos continues as Junior Chamber International (JCI) Philippines formally launched the Metro Manila leg of the 2026 The Outstanding Filipino (TOFIL) Awards on Monday, May 11, in Quezon City.
JCI Philippines will formally launch the Metro Manila leg of the 2026 TOFIL Awards on May 11, 2026, recognizing Filipinos aged 41 and above for excellence, leadership, and contributions to nation-building.
JCI Philippines will formally launch the Metro Manila leg of the 2026 TOFIL Awards on May 11, 2026, recognizing Filipinos aged 41 and above for excellence, leadership, and contributions to nation-building.
The TOFIL Awards, conceived in 1988 by JCI Senate Philippines, aims to institutionalize recognition for Filipinos aged 41 and above whose achievements and contributions have significantly impacted their communities and the nation.
Organizers said the event seeks to celebrate the legacy of service of outstanding individuals while gathering esteemed leaders, stakeholders, and partners who continue to support initiatives recognizing excellence and nation-building.
NEVP JCI Sen. Herbert Tang, in his welcome remarks, said the awards program was “established on the belief that many Filipinos aged 41 and over deserve recognition for their contributions to society and their respective professions.”
Awardees will be selected through a rigorous evaluation process anchored on the strength of their character and integrity, as well as the impact of their achievements in their respective fields, public welfare, and national development.
The criteria are inspired by the fifth and sixth tenets of the Jaycee Creed, which emphasize the value of human personality and service to humanity.
Organizers said the nomination process requires the submission of an executive summary detailing the nominee’s most significant accomplishments, the scope and relevance of their contributions, and the reasons they deserve recognition as one of the country’s outstanding citizens.
“TOFIL recognizes individuals whose contributions have created meaningful, measurable, and lasting impact,” Tang said.
Search for the best, extraordinary Filipinos
In his keynote address, Lamoiyan Corp. Chairman and TOYM Honoree Dr. Cecilio K. Pedro highlighted the importance of the search.
"Make your lives extraordinary, that's what we are looking for TOFIL," he added.
The awards cover a wide range of fields of specialization, including Agriculture; Arts and Culture; Business, Entrepreneurship and Industry; Community and Humanitarian Service; Ecclesiastical and Religious Work; Ecological and Environmental Conservation; Economics and Finance; Education; Government and Public Service; History; Justice and Law; Labor; Literature, Journalism and Media; Medicine; Military and Police Work; Science and Technology; Sports; Peace and Advocacy; Technopreneurship; and other fields of public service and professional excellence.
The nomination period covers accomplishments up to June 30, 2026.
The selection process begins with an extensive preliminary screening conducted by a Screening Committee, according to TOFIL National Chair, JCI Senate Philippines, JCI Sen. Dino Ferdinand Galido.
Final selections will then be made by a Board of Judges composed of distinguished personalities from various sectors.
The TOFIL Awards is open to Filipinos who are natural-born, naturalized citizens, or dual citizens, provided they are at least 41 years old and possess good moral character.
Nominees must have demonstrated dedication to their profession or vocation and made significant contributions to the advancement of their field, public welfare, and national development.
An Outstanding Young Men (TOYM) awardee may also be nominated in a field different from the one for which they were previously recognized.
Meanwhile, a JCI Senator may qualify for nomination provided they are not an incumbent member of the JCI Senate Philippines Board.
By virtue of their positions and honors, former Philippine presidents, National Artists, and National Scientists are excluded from the award.
Among the distinguished personalities previously recognized by TOFIL are Jaime Cardinal Sin, Rosa Rosal, Diosdado Macapagal, Richard Gordon, Fe Del Mundo, Alfredo Pascual, Persida Acosta, and Jose Cuisia Jr., among others.
Unlike many recognition programs, Galido explained the TOFIL Awards does not offer cash prizes, focusing instead on honoring individuals whose dedication and commitment have made meaningful, lasting contributions to society.
Prior to the Metro Manila launch, Galido noted similar events have been held in Pangasinan and Batangas.
The launch will also be conducted in other parts of the country including Tacloban and Davao, as part of the organization’s nationwide campaign to encourage broader participation in the TOFIL Awards.
Interested nominators may learn more and submit entries through JCI Philippines.
