The Malabon City government expanded healthcare services for persons deprived of liberty (PDLs), benefiting 167 inmates during a recent activity at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) facility in Barangay Catmon.
The program included the PhilHealth Yakap Registration Caravan, where 30 dependents were also enrolled.
The program was led by the Malabon City Health Department–Health Promotion Unit, headed by OIC Dr. Bernadette Bordador, in coordination with the Local PhilHealth Office Caloocan NCR Pro and partner pharmacy services.
A representative from PhilHealth also explained the PhilHealth Yakap program and the benefits available to its members.
Meanwhile, 490 PDL underwent tuberculosis screening through chest X-ray and GeneXpert testing for early detection and treatment.
Health services provided during the activity included medical consultations, risk assessment, oral health, mental health, and family planning.
Mayor Jeannie Sandoval attended the activity and led the distribution of PhilHealth ID cards and member records to beneficiaries.
“Ang hakbang na ito ay hindi lamang simpleng dokumento; ito ay simbolo ng pagbibigay dignidad, seguridad, at pag-asa (This initiative is not just a simple document; it is a symbol of providing dignity, security, and hope),” she said.
The city government said individuals who test positive for tuberculosis will be provided with treatment, monitoring, and medicines in coordination with BJMP officials.
The initiative aims to ensure that health services are accessible to all sectors, including those in detention facilities.
