Dee Hsu regrets suggesting Japan trip before sister Barbie Hsu's death in 2025

Taiwanese TV host Dee Hsu has opened up about her lingering guilt over a family trip to Japan that preceded the death of her sister, actress Barbie Hsu, in 2025.
Speaking on her talk show "Dee Girls Talk," Hsu revealed that she was the one who initially proposed the Lunar New Year trip, during which Barbie Hsu later contracted flu-related pneumonia.
Hsu recalled that her sister had initially been hesitant to travel, making her eventual decision to join the trip unusual.
“Usually, Barbie would say she was tired and not want to go. But this time, she insisted we must go,” Hsu said, as translated by AsiaOne.
The trip had also been opposed by their mother, Huang Chun-mei, who cited concerns over high travel costs and heavy holiday crowds.
Hsu admitted that the decision continues to weigh heavily on her.
“I was the one who initiated the trip first. So whenever we miss Barbie, I would tell my mum, ‘It’s all because I insisted on the trip,’” she said.
Despite reassurances from their mother, Hsu said she continues to struggle with regret.
“Whenever I say that, my mum tells me not to blame myself… but I can’t help but wonder why I didn’t listen,” she added.
Hsu also shared how she has been coping with grief while caring for her family, including her daughter. She acknowledged moments of emotional difficulty but said she tries to remain composed at home.
“I can’t show that kind of behavior in front of my daughter. She needs me to be well,” she said.
Barbie Hsu, best known for her role as Shan Cai in the hit drama "Meteor Garden," continues to be mourned by fans and colleagues.
