- Actor-producer Enrique Gil opens up about burnout, family time during the pandemic, and his shift into filmmaking with Slingshot Studios, as he leads the action-romance series 'A Secret in Prague.'
For Enrique Gil, the past few years were less about chasing the spotlight and more about stepping away from it.
The pandemic played a big part in that. It slowed everything down and gave him something he didn’t expect, time with family, and a much-needed reset.
“Siguro burn out na rin in a way,” he shares. “Na-realize ko na all those years, I missed out on my family… na-enjoy ko yung sila naman ang kasama ko and I’m not worrying about work. So, I feel like blessing in disguise yung nangyari.”
Used to a fast-paced life of TV and film projects, the long break felt strange at first. At one point, he even thought about leaving showbiz for good.
“Too much fun not doing any showbiz-related activities,” he says of that period.
But stepping away did not end his creativity. It actually brought it back stronger.
“Nung time na wala akong ginagawa, na-miss ko rin,” he says. “Pero sabi ko, if and when I decide to go back, it should be on my own terms. So, I started planning how to do it.”
That plan led to Slingshot Studios, his production company. It started as Immerse Entertainment and later evolved into a space where Enrique could work not just as an actor, but also as a producer and creative lead.
The company has already co-produced films like "I Am Not Big Bird" (2024) and "Strange Frequencies: Taiwan Killer Hospital."
But his newest project shows a clearer direction.
Titled “A Secret in Prague,” Enrique says it is him reaching out to the “masa,” bringing back “happy vibes” to television.
“Ang gusto ko, pagbalik ko sa TV, happy vibes… familiar but fun, parang pamilya,” he says.
“Like eto, it’s about family but there’s action, and may comedy din. You’re still engaged, but may lightness through it all,” he says. “Gusto ko may relief yung viewers. Uuwi sila to watch something that takes them away from stress. Bibihira na yung ganun.”
“A Secret In Prague” is built to be easy to watch, but still emotionally grounded.
Early episodes show steady pacing, natural dialogue, and a tone that shifts comfortably between drama and humor.
Then there’s Andrea Brillantes who is paired with Enrique for the first time. Fans love it.
“Yeah. Natutuwa ako sa reaction ng mga tao. I’m glad they welcomed the idea. Personally, I like it kasi it feels fresh, new, exciting.”
“A Secret in Prague" premieres April 27 on TV5, airing Mondays to Fridays at 8PM, with an earlier release on Netflix starting April 24.
