2 killed, 9 hurt in Easter Sunday multiple collision in Ilocos Sur
SAN ILDEFONSO, Ilocos Sur – Two motorcycle riders were killed and nine others, including the driver of a Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV), were injured in a multiple collision in Barangay Gongogong here on Easter Sunday, April 5.
Initial investigation showed that a northbound Ford Everest driven by a 23-year-old man from Barangay Vacunero, Santo Domingo, Ilocos Sur swerved into the opposite lane while attempting to overtake a vehicle in front and rammed five southbound motorcycles at around 3 a.m.
The SUV collided with three Honda Click 125s, a Yamaha NMAX, and a Yamaha Mio 110. The drivers and back riders were residents of Barangay Tambo Malaki, Indang, Cavite.
The motorcycle riders and passengers were taken to a hospital where two of them were declared dead. The fatalities were riders of the Yamaha Mio 110.
The San Ildefonso Municipal Police Station and the Bureau of Fire Protection found the motorcycles and the Ford Everest heavily damaged.
The SUV driver was injured and tested positive for alcohol, authorities said.
All vehicles involved are under police custody. Follow-up investigation is ongoing.
