GUMACA, Quezon – Department of Public Works and Highways Secretary Vince Dizon conducted another inspection of the Maharlika Highway here on Monday, March 30.
Dizon, accompanied by Department of Public Works and Highways 4-A Director Carol Pastrana and Gumaca Mayor Webster Letargo, visited the repair of the road in the town center which is now temporarily passable in one lane.
The DPWH chief revisited the area to ensure readiness for influx of travelers this Holy Week.
"Because if we can save traffic, it will reduce consumption, especially since gasoline is so expensive right now. Less consumption, less cost, less travel time. So, as President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., said, ‘Let's just keep going because life is hard now, our situation is hard now,’’’ Dizon said.
Motorists headed to Bicol will now have a more direct and comfortable journey because the road at the Maharlika Highway intersection in Gumaca is now in better condition, said Dizon.
Dizon recalled: “If you remember, just a few months ago, the situation at this intersection here in Gumaca was really bad. That's why they really rushed it, and you can see the quality, the cement is very thick. This is important because President Marcos said that if we save traffic, it will reduce consumption, especially since gasoline is very expensive now,” said Dizon.
Dizon ordered Pastrana to fast-track the repair of the road, which became trending on social media, prompting Letargo to appeal for action.
