Motorcycle rider dies after crashing into pickup truck in Antipolo
A 20-year-old motorcycle rider died after crashing into a pickup truck along Sumulong Highway in Barangay Sta. Cruz, Antipolo City, on Sunday, March 22.
Based on dashcam footage uploaded on Facebook by RJ Enriquez, the rider was seen traversing a curved, downhill stretch of the road, where witnesses said he was speeding.
After passing Enriquez’s vehicle, the rider, who was in the opposite lane, was captured on the rear dashcam, crashing into the pickup truck trailing Enriquez’s vehicle.
“Please drive safe always! Witnessed a fatal accident yesterday, sa likod na sasakyan lang namin. Muntik na samin tumama yung motor. Posting this video baka kailangan ng nabanggang Tamaraw (It was just right behind our vehicle. The motorcycle nearly hit us. Posting this video in case the driver of the Tamaraw that was hit needs it),” Enriquez wrote.
According to authorities, the motorcycle reportedly overshot its lane along the curved section of the road, which resulted in the collision. Due to the impact, the pickup’s front portion was crumpled and its windshield shattered.
First responders brought the rider to the hospital for medical treatment, but he was later declared dead.
Meanwhile, authorities said the rider’s family and the pickup driver have reached a settlement, with the family waiving any complaint and the driver agreeing to cover the burial and repair expenses.
