Marcos remains 'fully supportive' of people-centered Bangsamoro governance system
President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.
President Marcos has expressed that he remains supportive of the Bangsamoro region's aspiration to create a people-centered government.
"The journey toward peace and meaningful self-governance is never simple. It requires patience, honest dialogue, and the courage to believe that reconciliation is always possible," Marcos said in his speech on Thursday, March 12 when he hosted a grand Iftar at the Malacañan Palace.
"As previously and numerously mentioned before, this Administration remains fully supportive of creating a people-centered governance system in the Bangsamoro region," he expressed.
Marcos made the statement before Muslim leaders and guests gathered for the traditional breaking of the fast.
The President further said that the work is not yet done, assuring them that his administration remains steadfast in ensuring that the promise of peace translates into real opportunities for the Bangsamoro people and for all Filipinos.
"Because peace must not exist only in signed agreements; it must be felt in everyday life," Marcos said.
"And so, gatherings like this carry a deeper meaning than what we sometimes realize. They inspire all of us, Muslim and non-Muslims alike, to walk the path of respect, of understanding, and solidarity," Marcos added.
'Peace anywhere matters to people everywhere'
In his speech, the Chief Executive underscored the value of mutual respect and fellowship among Filipinos of different faiths.
“It is an honor to join you here today for iftar and share a meal with you. Your presence here affirms that our nation remains a place where people of every faith and background are always welcome in fellowship and with mutual respect,” he said.
Marcos noted that Ramadan is a time for families, neighbors, and communities to come together, but acknowledged that the world is facing uncertainty and serious challenges, including tensions in the Middle East.
He added that the conflict has implications not only for the international community but also for Filipinos, the economy, and the daily lives of families.
“We are likewise saddened and concerned on the rising human [cost of the conflict],” the President said.
"We think of the many innocent lives that are clearly being affected, especially our Muslim brothers and sisters who, during this sacred month, should be experiencing a time of peace and reflection, and yet are now burdened with worry and distress," Marcos added.
The President stressed that such moments serve as a reminder that "peace anywhere matters to people everywhere."
He assured them that the government continues its efforts to safeguard and strengthen the foundations of peace in the country, emphasizing the responsibility to secure a stable future for the next generation.
The President also highlighted the values reflected during Ramadan—discipline, humility, and compassion for others—saying these virtues also contribute to building a stronger nation.
“Ramadan teaches us a powerful lesson in nation-building. A strong nation after all, is built by citizens who have the heart and the discipline to put the welfare of others before their own,” he said.
Marcos added that gatherings such as the Grand Iftar help strengthen solidarity and understanding among Filipinos regardless of faith or cultural background.
