What's happening in the Middle East?

Israel and the United States attacked Iran on Saturday, Feb. 28, triggering neighboring countries to urge residents to take shelter as possibilities of escalation of tension in the Middle East rises.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a video statement that Tel Aviv and Washington “embarked on an operation” on Tehran to remove its existential threat posed by the regime of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
US President Donald Trump confirmed a joint operation was launched by both countries, which was “aimed at eliminating threats” from Tehran.
Iranian media reported that apparent explosions were heard in places linked to Khamenei.
Multiple foreign media reported that explosions were heard in the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait, while Bahrain reportedly confirmed that a US headquarters was targeted by a missile attack.
Qatar’s Defense Ministry also announced intercepting attacks that apparently targeted the country’s territory.
Earlier, the Philippine Embassy in Tel Aviv advised Filipinos to take extra care and be more alert as Trump hinted at the possibility of attacking Iran.
Trump said he was “not happy” with Iran’s negotiating position during nuclear talks.
Meanwhile, the Philippine Embassy in Beirut also advised Filipinos there “to remain vigilant and exercise prudence at this time.”
The Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has yet to issue a statement as of writing.
