Two-month closed fishing season for tawilis in Taal Lake starts March 1
CALAMBA CITY, Laguna – The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) will enforce the closed fishing season for tawilis in Taal Lake from March 1 to April 30.
The annual ban allows the fish endemic to Taal Lake to regenerate and protect its population.
Banned during this period are the catching, selling, trading, traveling, transporting, and other transactions related to the trade of Sardinella tawilis.
Sanctions will be imposed against violators under Section 126 of Republic Act No. 10654 or the Philippine Fisheries Code of 1998.
These are prison sentence of six months to two years, administrative fine of eight times the value of the fish or species or P100,000 to P500,000, whichever is higher, and cancellation or suspension of permit or license.
