Putting unauthorized stamps on passport punishable by law — DFA
The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has advised Filipinos against putting unauthorized stamps on their passports.
In an advisory on Wednesday, Feb. 25, the DFA said Philippine passport holders must refrain from putting unauthorized markings on their documents as doing so is punishable by law.
"Such unauthorized changes to the ePassport not only renders the travel document invalid," it said.
"But is also considered as tampering of an official document, which is punishable under the law," it added.
Recently, a post from a Filipina travel blogger made rounds on social media after sharing that she just invalidated her passport through collecting unauthorized stamps on her passport as souvenirs from foreign destinations she went to.
She said she collected those stamps while travelling mostly in South America. Some of her stamps showed unauthorized stamps apparently from souvenir shops from Chile, Peru, and Ecuador.
According to the DFA, passports should be submitted only to authorized officials or authorities for stamping.
"The Philippine ePassport is the property of the Republic of the Philippines and any alteration, addition, or destruction of its contents is strictly prohibited," it added.
