Construction worker dies after being struck by collapsing scaffolding in Rizal

A man, working as an assistant construction worker, died after allegedly being struck by collapsing scaffolding at a construction site along Daang Bakal Street in Barangay Maly, San Mateo, Rizal, on Monday morning, Feb. 23.

Based on the investigation, the victim was performing his assigned task, together with his father, around 8 a.m.

While working, authorities said the elevated portion of the structure, particularly the scaffolding, collapsed and struck the victim, which resulted in severe injuries to different parts of his body.

The victim was immediately brought by his father to Casimiro A. Ynares Sr. Memorial Medical Hospital for medical treatment. However, after several hours, he was declared dead due to traumatic injuries sustained.

The San Mateo Municipal Police Station said it is conducting an investigation to determine whether negligence occurred. The probe also seeks to establish liability, if any, for a possible violation of Article 365 of the Revised Penal Code (Reckless Imprudence Resulting in Homicide) and other applicable laws.
