Manila Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso on Tuesday, Feb. 24, led the groundbreaking ceremony for Binondominium 2 in San Nicolas, marking the sixth vertical housing project under his administration and reaffirming the City Government of Manila’s commitment to providing dignified homes for low-income families.
The 15-storey residential building will rise on a 405 square meter lot with a total floor area of 6,277.5 square meters and will accommodate 98 housing units.
Each 40 square meter unit will feature two bedrooms, a toilet and bath, a kitchen, a dining area, and a living space, designed to provide safe and comfortable living conditions for beneficiary families.
The project will also include two elevators, an office space, a daycare center, multi purpose hall, and a roof deck, along with other essential facilities aimed at supporting the daily needs and well-being of residents.
In his speech, Domagoso reflected on his childhood in Tondo, recalling the hardship of displacement and uncertainty faced by families living in informal settlements.
“Ang mahirap sa pagiging iskwater, galing ka sa eskwelahan pag uwi mo, hindi ka sigurado kung yung bahay mo nakatusok pa (Being poor and living in informal housing, when you come home from school, you are not sure if your house is still standing),” he said
He reminded residents of his campaign promise in 2019 to prioritize city housing, noting that while the pandemic delayed some projects, construction continued, including the completion of earlier developments such as Basecommunity, Tondominium 1 and 2, and Binondominium 1.
Citing former President Ramon Magsaysay, the Mayor emphasized the social responsibility of the government to uplift vulnerable sectors.
“Those who have less in life must have more in law,” Domagoso said, underscoring the city’s investment of hundreds of millions of pesos in public housing.
He also urged future residents to take care of the property and uphold discipline within the community, stressing that access to improved housing comes with shared responsibility.
Domagoso further assured residents that the city government will continue collaborating with the national government on major projects, including the construction of the new Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila College of Allied Health Sciences building and the planned acquisition of land for a new hospital in Tondo.
“Ang Maynila ay mananatiling mamumuhunan sa MBN: Minimum Basic Needs housing, education, healthcare, and jobs (Manila will continue investing in Minimum Basic Needs housing, education, healthcare, and jobs)."
“Ang gobyerno ay kayang pataasin ang antas ng pamumuhay ng kanyang mamamayan (The government can uplift the quality of life of its people),” he added.
