BAGUIO CITY – The Police Regional Office-Cordillera Administrative Region on Saturday said drones helped discover hidden marijuana plantations in the region.
Police said P300-million worth of marijuana were found ad destroyed from January to Feb. 18 in the mountainous regions of Kalinga, Benguet, and Mountain Province.
The PRO-Cordillera last October launched the Squadrone (Smart Quadrotor Unit for Advanced Deployment, Detection, Reconnaissance, Observation, and Networked Enforcement) drone unit last October.
The project aims to institutionalize the use of Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) or drones across the region, to further strengthen law enforcement, crime prevention, crime resolution, public safety, and disaster response operations.
Fifty Squadrone operatives underwent intensive training in the use of drones.
