GoTyme becomes Philippines' most-used Visa debit card
GoTyme Bank has emerged as the most widely used Visa debit card issuer in the Philippines, marking a major milestone in the fast-growing digital bank’s expansion amid rising adoption of cashless payments.
In a joint statement on Thursday, Feb. 19, global payments firm Visa and GoTyme Bank said the digital lender had achieved the top spot in the Visa debit card market, supported by rapid growth in active users and transaction volumes.
GoTyme Bank now has more than eight million Visa debit card users nationwide, with payment volume surging by over 150 percent year on year in 2025. The bank also reported more than ₱43 billion in customer deposits, reflecting increased adoption of its digital banking platform.
Visa also recognized GoTyme Bank for posting the highest growth in debit payment volume, active debit cards, and contactless transactions among issuers. The bank was likewise among the first in the Philippines to enable Google Wallet and Google Pay, expanding tap-to-pay capabilities for its customers.
“When banking is made simple and beautiful, customer deepen their trust and adoption with the brand. This milestone reflects the confidence Filipinos place in GoTyme Bank,” said Nate Clarke, GoTyme Bank president and chief executive officer (CEO). “Together with Visa, we will continue delivering secure, seamless everyday experiences as we push toward our goal of becoming the largest and most loved retail bank in the Philippines.”
Visa Philippines country manager Jeffrey Navarro said the partnership has played a key role in advancing digital payments adoption in the country.
“Our partnership with GoTyme is leveling up the payments experience for Filipinos, enabling innovative, safe and seamless payment experiences,” Navarro said. “This partnership also aligns with the government’s vision to build a digital-first, cash-lite society.”
The latest development builds on a multi-year collaboration agreement signed by Visa and GoTyme Bank at Singapore FinTech Festival in November 2025. The partnership aims to accelerate digital payments innovation across emerging markets (EMs) in Asia and Africa.
Under the agreement, Visa will support GoTyme Bank’s expansion through enhanced card issuance programs, marketing support, and digital infrastructure, alongside data-driven financial services designed to improve customer experience.
GoTyme Bank, which is regulated by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), is a joint venture (JV) between the Gokongwei group and digital banking group Tyme. It has expanded its presence through nationwide kiosks offering on-the-spot debit card issuance, alongside its mobile banking platform and contactless payment features.
The bank’s growth reflects broader efforts by financial institutions and payments firms to promote digital transactions and reduce reliance on cash, in line with the government’s push toward a more digitally integrated financial system.
