Antique eyes Korean agri-fishery technology

ILOILO CITY — The provincial government of Antique is eyeing to adopt new technology from South Korea to boost its agri-fishery sector.

Gov Paolo Javier recently met representatives of Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), the Asian Forest Cooperation Organization (AFoCO), and members of the Korean academe.

One of the key technologies presented was a buoy-type fish finder that can provide a database for different types of fish for local fishermen. This technology was developed by Prof. Doojin Hwang of Chonnam National University.

On the other hand, the Earth Forest Environment Inc. (EFE) is pushing for a forest restoration project that will “plant fruit-bearing trees alongside agricultural lands that were converted from forest areas.”

This agroforestry aims to restore damaged forests while providing livelihood to local farmers. Another aspect of the project is the creation of plant tissue laboratory and nursery facilities.

The Javier administration welcomed the proposals and is willing to sign an agreement for future partnership.
