DENR, Iloilo City partner to combat climate change thru science-based solutions

ILOILO CITY – The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and the Iloilo City government have partnered for a new project to combat the impact of climate change with science-based solutions.

DENR Secretary Raphael Lotilla and Iloilo City Mayor Raisa Treñas signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) for the Transdisciplinary Approach for Resilience and Environmental Sustainability through Multi-stakeholder Engagement (Transform) Project.

The DENR project is eyeing the commitment of the local government of Iloilo City in a “science-based, data-driven blueprint for climate resilience, focusing on urban greening and ecosystem restoration to secure the city’s future.”

The MOA was signed as part of the two-day "Sustainability Directions 2026" forum organized by the Iloilo Business Club (IBC).

Speaking to both the public and private sectors, Lotilla noted how sustainable economic development is anchored with a delicate balance of science, innovation, and transparency.

Lotilla said that technology is not static and that society should focus on meeting rigorous emission standards rather than rejecting new technologies outright.

Also present at the MOA signing were Undersecretary Augusto dela Peña, Director Cleo Sabado-Andrada, and the DENR-Western Visayas led by Regional Director Raul Lorilla.
