CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro – A member of the board of directors of the provincial electric cooperative was gunned down on Friday night, Feb. 13, in Pinamalayan, Oriental Mindoro.
Police Col. Edison V. Revita, provincial police chief, identified the victim as Antonio M. Mendeja, a director of the Oriental Mindoro Electric Cooperative assigned to the towns of Bansud and Bongabong in southern Oriental Mindoro.
Investigation said Mendeja was checking the engine of his vehicle in Barangay Del Razon on his way home from Calapan City to Barangay Bagong Bayan 1 in Bongabong when a man wearing a white T-shirt on board a black motorcycle arrived and shot him in the abdomen.
The suspect fled and the victim was taken to the Oriental Mindoro Central District Hospital in Barangay Papandayan where he was declared dead.
Ormeco officials vouched for the integrity of Mendeja and urged justice for the victim.
Revita has created a Special Investigation Task Group led by himself to pursue the case.
