Thunderbelles overcome Chargers to notch first win

Chinnie Arroyo delivered the crucial blows for the Thunderbelles in the deciding fifth set, pacing the squad with 18 points built on 15 attacks.

ZUS Coffee overcame a resilient Akari crew, 16-25, 25-18, 18-25, 25-23, 15-12, to notch its first victory in three starts in the Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference at the Filoil Centre in San Juan City on Thursday, Feb. 12.

Chinnie Arroyo delivered the crucial blows for the Thunderbelles in the deciding fifth set, pacing the squad with 18 points built on 15 attacks.

Jovelyn Gonzaga also flashed her vintage form and fired 14 points on 10 attacks, two blocks and two aces, while Riza Nogales contributed 10 points highlighted by four blocks.

The Thunderbelles team efforts overshadowed the 24-point production of Ivy Lacsina for the Chargers, as well as Fifi Sharma and Chenie Tagaod’s combined 24 points.

Akari absorbed its second straight loss in as many games.
