ACEN to supply 100% renewable power to Yusen Logistics
Ayala-led ACEN Corp.’s retail electricity unit announced that it is supplying renewable energy (RE) to logistics firm Yusen Logistics Philippines Inc. as part of the company’s green operations.
In a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) on Wednesday, Feb. 11, ACEN Renewable Energy Solutions (ACEN RES) said it will power Yusen Logistics’ head office in Parañaque City with 100-percent RE.
Yusen Logistics president Mitsutaka Matsubara said that this partnership would help reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 45 percent within the next four years and help the company reach its goal of ensuring that its services attain net-zero emissions by 2050.
Sheila Mina, ACEN RES vice president and head of account management, said that Yusen Logistics would help grow the firm’s portfolio of partners, as the retail electricity supplier (RES) is currently one of the largest players in the sector.
“By choosing to source 100-percent RE through the Green Energy Option Program (GEOP), Yusen Logistics demonstrates decisive leadership in decarbonizing the logistics sector,” she said.
ACEN RES currently holds a 57-percent market share as the top GEOP supplier. GEOP is a program of the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) that allows qualified end-users with a 100-kilowatt (kW) average peak demand to source their power from RE with the help of a licensed clean energy supplier.
“We are also delighted to award them our ‘Powered by Renewable Energy’ badge, symbolizing their commitment to a cleaner future and encouraging more businesses to join the Philippines’ crucial energy transition,” Mina added.
Yusen Logistics offers end-to-end supply chain solutions such as international freight forwarding and contract logistics. It has a presence across Metro Manila, northern and southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
Meanwhile, ACEN has less than seven gigawatts (GW) of attributable RE capacity spanning operational, under-construction, and committed projects. - Gabriell Christel Galang
