PLDT banked on the match-long brilliance of Fil-Canadian Savi Davison to sweep, 25-22, 25-17, 25-23, and notch its first win in the 2026 Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference at the Filoil Centre in San Juan City on Thursday, Feb. 5.
Davison finished with 26 points, 11 digs, and 10 receptions to power the High Speed Hitters and spoil the return of national team stalwarts Jia de Guzman and Bernadeth Pons.
PLDT head coach Rald Ricafort praised his team’s strong start to the season while acknowledging how Creamline consistently brings out the best in his squad.
“Every time talaga na Creamline ang kalaban, gusto talaga namin ’yung challenge. Nilalabas talaga nila ’yung laro ng players namin. Especially na bumalik si Jia and Pons, mataas ’yung respect namin sa dalawa,” said Ricafort.
“Siguro sumakto lang na ’yung momentum namin galing training camp nandoon pa,” he added.
Davison also took note of Creamline’s returning veterans and shared her mindset heading into the match.
“I’ve been working a lot on patience and waiting. Creamline and their fans can make it a really hard game to come in, so we were able to keep calm and stay together throughout the match,” said Davison.
An Alyssa Valdez kill in the opening set pulled Creamline within one, 18-19, but it proved futile as the Fil-Canadian hard-hitter fired from all cylinders, highlighted by a set-clinching block to give PLDT the early edge.
Mika Reyes and Mary Joy Baron then delivered back-to-back kills in the second frame, sending the perennial contenders into a 0-2 hole.
A Valdez service ace and a couple of PLDT errors tied the third set at 23-all, sending the Filoil Centre crowd into pandemonium as Creamline tried to delay the inevitable.
But Davison showed why she is the PVL Invitational MVP, unloading a decisive kill to put PLDT on the brink before a Jovy Prado block sealed the sweep.
Pons led Creamline with 13 points, while Tots Carlos added 11.
Valdez and Bea De Leon scored five apiece, while de Guzman was held scoreless.
PLDT will look to improve to 2-0 against the Capital1 Solar Spikers on Thursday, Feb. 12, at the Filoil Centre.
