Vice President Sara Duterte has described Manila Bulletin, which is celebrating its 126th anniversary, as "an indispensable pillar of our democracy" after evolving from a shipping news tabloid.
In a message, the Vice President congratulated the media company for its milestone that she described "as a testament to over a century of unwavering service." Its evolution to becoming a pillar proved "that longevity is earned through the consistent pursuit of public trust," she said.
Duterte thanked Manila Bulletin for standing by the Filipino people throughout the history as its commitment to truth is "more vital than ever as we navigate the challenging paths toward equitable development and disaster resilience."
"In an era where many of our kababayans face a rising cost of living and the increasing frequency of extreme climate events, we need a press that upholds the dignity of the marginalized," she said.
"Your role ensures that the need for inclusive social protection remains at the forefront of our national conversation," she added.
The Vice President also urged the company to "remain steadfast" as it celebrated on Monday, Feb. 2, its "legacy of integrity."
"Carry with you the triumphs that have strengthened your cause and the resilience fostered by the challenges of our time," she said.
"May the truth you publish continue to echo with clarity in every community you reach—unswayed, undiluted, and always in service of the Filipino," she added.
