Poetry comes to life in Art House's Lakbay 2026

Christina Quisumbing shares her art journey in 'Through Visual Poetries'

Poetry, as an art form, moves souls through the playfulness of words.Now on its second run, Art House brings back the Lakbay series, an art exhibit within Discovery Primea which shares the brilliance of Filipino artists. Last year, Lakbay featured the works of modernist painter Nena Saguil. This year, Lakbay sheds the spotlight on Christina “Ling” Quisumbing and eight other artists (ALLDEFS, Katrina Bello, Kim Cruz, Joseph Gabriel, Rasco Jugarap, Kulay Labitingan, Angela Silva, and Pinky Ibarra Urmaza) in "Through Visual Poetries."

 "The vision for LAKBAY has always been to create a space for our Filipino artists living in the diaspora, fostering cultural exchange and engaging new localities. Through the collaborations happening within our platform and within this program, we are also able to highlight the fact that the Philippines’ got talent," shares Art House founder Carlo Pineda. "We have always wanted to emphasize this even during the first LAKBAY series. It will always go back to this one clear message: the Philippine’s has got talent.” 

Among the works presented, Ling's "Work in Progress" stands out for its constructive appearance. Akin to a wooden scaffolding, viewers are left to ponder what exactly is being built from this piece. Another artwork that stands is "Mukhang Pera," where hundreds of faces from local currency make up a large P100 bill.

“I am quite idealistic. So, when things are damaged or worn out, I feel compelled to fix it or give it a fresh start. Of course, in my own way," shares Ling. I have always been fascinated with functional things that don’t function; like
chairs that you can’t exactly sit on. I try to understand these scraps as I attempt to piece
them together. Broken things have their own stories to tell."
Lakbay 2026 is on view at Discovery Primea until Feb. 1.
