One hundred couples formally exchanged vows as the Malabon City government held its Kasalang Lungsod 2026 at the Malabon Sports Complex on Thursday, Jan. 29. 

Mayor Jeannie Sandoval officiated the mass wedding, officiated the mass wedding, which forms part of the city’s program to help couples formalize their unions and start family life with government support.

“Pagbati sa ating mga bagong kasal! Sa pagpasok ninyo sa bagong yugto bilang mag-asawa, nawa ay panatilihin at lalo ninyong palalimin ang pagmamahalan at pagtutulungan. Tandaan ninyo na kayo ay magkakampi sa anumang hamon ng buhay (Congratulations to our newlyweds! As you enter this new chapter as husband and wife, may you continue to nurture and deepen your love and cooperation. Remember that you are partners in facing every challenge in life),” she said. 

“Kaya maging bukas sa komunikasyon, mag-intindihan, at suportahan ang isa’t isa. Sa araw na ito, kayo ay iisa na, kaya palagi ninyong unahin ang kapakanan ng inyong asawa at ng bubuuin ninyong pamilya. Naririto po ako at ang pamahalaang lungsod upang maging gabay ninyo at kaagapay. Best wishes, newlyweds (Be open in your communication, be understanding, and support one another. From this day on, you are one, so always prioritize the welfare of your spouse and the family you are building. I, together with the city government, am here to guide and support you. Best wishes, newlyweds),” Sandoval added. 

The mayor also encouraged the newlyweds to actively support the city’s environmental programs.

“Kasabay nito, hinihikayat natin ang bawat bagong kasal na patuloy na sumuporta sa ating mga programa at aktibidad para sa kalikasan. Kapag maayos ang ating kapaligiran, mas magiging maginhawa at mas maaliwalas ang pamumuhay ng mga pamilya (At the same time, we encourage every newly married couple to continue supporting our programs and activities for the environment. When our surroundings are well cared for, family life becomes more comfortable and more livable),” she said.

The event was organized by the Civil Registry Department and marked the third Kasalang Lungsod held under the current administration.

The city government covered all marriage-related expenses, including marriage license application fees, registration fees, and required documents from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).  

It added that each couple also received financial assistance and a sack of rice. 

This year’s Kasalang Lungsod carried a garden wedding theme to promote environmental awareness. 

Couples were asked to bring used PET bottles during the rehearsal as part of the city’s waste reduction efforts.

According to the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) said a total of 176.66 kilos of PET bottles were collected and will be processed for recycling. 

CENRO added that recycled trash bins were also distributed to the couples to encourage proper waste segregation at home.
