JING and Duterte
Chinese Ambassador Jing Quan paid a courtesy visit to Davao City Mayor Sebastian Duterte on Monday, Jan. 26, as part of his two-day engagement here.
The visit focused on strengthening diplomatic ties and enhancing local level cooperation, with discussions centered on expanding partnerships in trade, investment, infrastructure, education, and people-to-people exchanges.
Duterte and Jing underscored the importance of sustained dialogue and practical collaboration in advancing Philippines–China relations, noting the role of local governments in supporting broader diplomatic efforts.
The meeting also highlighted Davao City’s growing significance as a center for international engagement in Mindanao, serving as a platform for translating bilateral relations into concrete development initiatives.
Jing's visit is part of ongoing efforts to deepen relations between the two countries through closer coordination and cooperation with local government units.
He visited this city just days after the City Council, barangay officials, and technical staff held a five-day official visit to Fujian, China, from Jan. 13 to 17, to advance potential partnerships to support this city’s economic and sectoral priorities.
The visit was led by Davao City Vice Mayor Rodrigo Duterte II.
City officials said the mission focused on engaging Chinese counterparts, exchanging governance and development practices, and identifying areas for cooperation in investment, tourism, agriculture, and technology.
