'Amihan', shear line to prevail over most of the Philippines

Cloudy skies and scattered rains are expected over several parts of the country as the northeast monsoon (amihan) and shear line persist, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said on Tuesday, Jan. 27.
PAGASA weather specialist Chenel Dominguez said that as of Tuesday, no low-pressure area or tropical cyclone is being monitored within or near the Philippine Area of Responsibility.
She added that the amihan and the shear line remain the dominant weather systems affecting the country.
Dominguez said the shear line has slightly retreated and is now less likely to bring significant rainfall over eastern Philippines.
However, scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms may still affect Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, Southern Leyte, Dinagat Islands, and Surigao del Norte within the next 24 hours.
Due to the amihan, cloudy skies with light rains are expected over Metro Manila, Cagayan Valley, the Cordillera Administrative Region, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Bicol Region, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, and Romblon.
The northeast monsoon may also bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains over the rest of Luzon and the rest of the Visayas.
Meanwhile, the rest of Mindanao will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms.
