Pasig barangay earns Seal of Good Local Governance for Barangay, special award from DILG
With the collective effort of the barangay leadership and community, Barangay San Antonio in Pasig City earned the Seal of Good Local Governance for Barangay (SGLGB) from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), along with a special award for Best Documentation Practices.
Department of the Interior and Local Government’s (DILG’s) Seal of Good Local Governance for Barangay (SGLGB), along with a special award for Best Documentation Practices.
Under the SGLGB assessment, Barangay San Antonio (BSA) passed all seven governance areas, covering financial administration and sustainability, disaster preparedness, peace and order, social protection, business-friendliness, and environmental management.
During the recent awarding ceremony at the Novotel Manila Araneta City in Cubao, Quezon City, BSA Chairman Raymond Lising said the recognition reflects the collective effort of the barangay leadership, workforce, and community.
“Malaking factor ang pagkakaisa ng Barangay Council, SK Council at workforce namin. Mahalaga talagang aligned kami towards a common goal. Malaking tulong din ang engagement ng aming mga stakeholders sa community (A major factor is the unity of our Barangay Council, SK Council, and workforce. It is very important that we are all aligned toward a common goal. The engagement of our community stakeholders also greatly helps),” he said.
Among the criteria, Lising said documentation proved to be the most challenging.
“Ang mabigat na task talaga is putting everything in the proper documentation. Malaking hamon talaga na meron records ng mga outputs ng aming serbisyo (The most challenging task was putting everything into proper documentation. It was really a big challenge to ensure that we have records of all the outputs of our services),” he said.
He stressed that proper documentation was crucial in securing the SGLGB recognition and in measuring the real impact of barangay programs.
“Very crucial ito. Kasi kung walang documentation na maayos, kahit na puno kami ng aksyon o gawa, hindi din ito masusukat in terms of impact sa aming komunidad (This is very crucial. Without proper documentation, even if we are full of actions and initiatives, their impact on the community cannot be properly measured),” the chairman explained.
As part of the barangay's preparation, Lising said BSA strengthened its internal systems, particularly in documentation and program development.
The chairman noted that while the recognition is appreciated, the satisfaction of residents and the quality of service they experience remain the priority.
“Personally, bonus na lang naman talaga itong mga awards. Pinakamahalaga pa rin ang feedback at satisfaction ng aming mga kabarangay sa aming serbisyo (Personally, these awards are just a bonus. What matters most is the feedback and satisfaction of our residents with the services we provide),” he said.
According to the chairman, the SGLGB process reinforced transparency and accountability at the barangay level.
“I believe putting everything on record or proper documentation plays a major part in transparency and accountability,” he said.
Lising said the evaluation showed the importance of balanced governance.
“Governance is a complete package. We need to give equal attention to all aspects of governance,” he said.
With the recognition, he said it will inspire the barangay to sustain reforms beyond the assessment period.
“Nagsilbing inspirasyon ang award na ito upang pagbutihan pa namin ang aming pagseserbisyo (This award serves as an inspiration for us to further improve our service),” he said.
