Air temperatures dipped further across several areas on Friday, Jan. 23, as the northeast monsoon, locally known as “amihan,” continued to affect most of the country, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.
Based on PAGASA’s official data, Baguio City recorded its lowest air temperature so far this amihan season at 10.6 degrees Celsius (°C), down from 11°C registered on Jan. 22.
Other areas that posted chilly early morning temperatures included Basco, Batanes (16.2°C), Tanay, Rizal (16.3°C), Malaybalay, Bukidnon (17.6°C), San Ildefonso, Bulacan (18.2°C), Abucay, Bataan (18.3°C), Laoag City, Ilocos Norte (18.5°C), Casiguran, Aurora (18.8°C), Sinait, Ilocos Sur (19°C), and Tuguegarao City, Cagayan (19°C).
PAGASA weather specialist Loriedin de la Cruz-Galicia said the surge of the amihan is affecting most of the country, bringing rains and cooler weather.
Meanwhile, the low-pressure area (LPA) located 765 kilometers east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur, or outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility, has a slim chance of affecting the country in the coming days.
From Saturday to Sunday, Jan. 24 to 25, cloudy skies with light rains are expected over the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), Cagayan Valley, Aurora, Bicol Region, Eastern Visayas, Caraga, and Davao Region.
Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains due to the amihan.
The rest of the country may also experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to easterlies or localized thunderstorms.
From Monday to Wednesday, Jan. 26 to 28, PAGASA said the northward shift of the shear line will bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over Bicol Region, Eastern Visayas, and Caraga.
Mostly cloudy skies with light rains are expected over Cagayan Valley, Apayao, and Aurora, while partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains will prevail over the Ilocos Region, the rest of CAR, the rest of Central Luzon, and Metro Manila due to the amihan.
The rest of the country will continue to experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to easterlies or localized thunderstorms.
By Thursday to Friday, Jan. 29 to 30, another occurrence of the shear line is expected to bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over Caraga, Davao Region, Northern Mindanao, and Eastern Visayas.
Mostly cloudy skies with light rains are likely over Cagayan Valley, Apayao, and Aurora, while partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains are expected over the Ilocos Region, the rest of CAR, the rest of Central Luzon, and Metro Manila due to the amihan.
The rest of the country will continue to experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to easterlies or localized thunderstorms.
