Morocco's King Mohammed VI has accepted US President Donald Trump's invitation to become one of the founding members of the US-led Peace Board that is committed to peace efforts in the Middle East.
Rabat welcomed Trump's invitation for His Majesty to be part of the Peace Board that he intends to launch, which it said "reflects the recognition of the enlightened leadership of His Majesty The King," as well as his stature "as a key peace actor."
It also "demonstrates the trust that the Sovereign enjoys with both the President of the United States and the international community," the Moroccan foreign ministry said in a statement.
According to Morocco, the Peace Board is aimed at "contributing to peace efforts in the Middle East and adopting a new approach to resolving conflicts worldwide."
Details on the Peace Board known by the public are still little, but Trump previously said it would be "the greatest and most prestigious board ever assembled at any time, any place."
Its mandate, said the Moroccan ministry, will be based on practical cooperation, effective action, and result-oriented partnerships.
It is actually reserved for a restricted group of internationally recognized leaders committed to a secure and prosperous future for coming generations, it added.
This invitation, reflects the recognition of the enlightened leadership of His Majesty the King, may God assist Him, and His stature as a key peace actor, and demonstrates the trust that the Sovereign enjoys with both the President of the United States and the international community.
"Welcoming the commitment and vision of President Donald Trump for promoting peace, His Majesty the King has accepted this invitation. In this context, Morocco will ratify the founding charter of this Board," it said.
"The Peace Board will take the legal form of an international organization with the aim of promoting stability, restoring governance, and ensuring lasting peace in areas affected by or threatened with conflict," it added.
Furthermore, Morocco said it welcomes the announcement of the launch of Trump's second phase comprehensive peace plan, as well as the official formation of the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza as a temporary transitional body.
On Jan. 16, the White House confirmed the implementation of the Phase Two of Trump's Comprehensive Plan to End the Gaza Conflict—a 20-point roadmap for lasting peace, stability, reconstruction, and prosperity in the region.
"Morocco reiterates its steadfast commitment to a just, comprehensive, and lasting peace in the Middle East, enabling the establishment of a Palestinian state within the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, living side by side in peace with Israel," it added.
