Orchestra of the Filipino Youth opens 2026 season with 'Elevate: Triumphs of Tchaikovsky'
The Orchestra of the Filipino Youth (OFY) proudly announces the opening of its 2026 concert season with “Elevate: Triumphs of Tchaikovsky” on Feb. 1, 2026, at the Proscenium Theater, Rockwell. This concert celebrates the power of youth, purpose, and performance while spotlighting the exceptional growth of the nation’s young classical musicians.
Under the baton of maestro Gerard Salonga, Triumphs of Tchaikovsky is a bold exploration of technical mastery and emotional depth. His works, renowned for their expressive intensity and orchestral demands, highlight OFY’s dedication to developing disciplined, professional musicians capable of meeting the challenges of the classical stage.
The concert features Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto, performed by rising OFY violinist Gavril Tiburcio. A homegrown artist of OFY, Gavril began his musical journey with Ang Misyon in 2016, at just eight years old as a scholar of the Orchestra of the Cardona Youth (one of Ang Misyon’s former satellite orchestras in Rizal). The following year, he officially joined as a member of the Ang Misyon Children’s Orchestra (AMCO), Ang Misyon's basic orchestra with younger members, where he also served as the concertmaster until he left for the US in 2020. He became an official OFY member upon his return in 2024 not just to perform but to inspire. Now 17, Gavril is a NAMCYA 2024 Salinlahing Musika – Junior Strings First Prize winner, whose victory led to a solo performance with the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra (PPO). He is also a proud delegate to the Asian Youth Orchestra 2025, carrying with him a story rooted in OFY and propelled onto the world stage. This embodies the promise of OFY–that with guidance, opportunity, and heart, young Filipino talent can elevate to the world stage.
Since its founding in 2012, OFY has nurtured exceptionally talented yet underprivileged young Filipino musicians through intensive orchestral training, mentorship programs, and international performance opportunities. This concert continues Ang Misyon’s mission to transform potential into possibility—giving these emerging musicians a stage to shine while powerfully demonstrating how investment in youth and the arts can change lives and shape futures.
“The Elevate season is both a celebration of how far our musicians have come and a promise of how much higher they can soar. Triumphs of Tchaikovsky challenges our young artists to rise to some of the most demanding repertoire ever written, and it invites audiences to witness the next generation of Filipino classical excellence.”
Interested audiences are invited to experience an evening of artistry, resilience, and inspiration, and to support the continued rise of young Filipino musicians on stage. Tickets for ELEVATE: Triumphs of Tchaikovsky are now available, you may message Ang Misyon on the following channels:
