President Marcos has designated new economic zones in Tanauan City, Batangas, and Iloilo City to spur investments, generate jobs, and support regional development.
The designations were made through two proclamations signed on Jan. 6 by Executive Secretary Ralph Recto, by authority of the President.
Under Proclamation No. 1127, four parcels of land in Barangays Pagaspas and Trapiche in Tanauan City were declared part of the existing First Industrial Township–Special Economic Zone.
The expansion, recommended by the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA), was issued pursuant to Republic Act (RA) No. 7916, or the Special Economic Zone Act of 1995, as amended by RA 8748.
The additional area covers 55,859 square meters and is located near the CALABARZON Road and the San Juan River, positioning it strategically for industrial and logistics activities.
New IT park in Iloilo
In a separate proclamation, Proclamation No. 1128, President Marcos created a new Information Technology Park in Iloilo City to be known as Atria Gardens.
The IT park covers 48,569 square meters of land along Donato Pison Avenue in Barangay San Rafael, District of Mandurriao, also upon the recommendation of PEZA and in accordance with the Special Economic Zone Act.
The establishment of Atria Gardens is expected to support the growth of the information technology and business process management sector in Iloilo City.
Boost to regional growth
Malacañang said the creation and expansion of the economic zones are aimed at attracting more investments, creating employment opportunities, and sustaining economic growth in the regions.
The move aligns with the administration’s push to strengthen countryside development and promote balanced economic activity across the country.
