Business disruption, calamities among top risks to Philippine firms in 2026 — Allianz

According to the Allianz Risk Barometer 2026, published on Tuesday, Jan. 14, both business interruption and natural catastrophes—ranked third and fifth in APAC, respectively—were among the top business risks in the Philippines.
Cyber risks and risks emerging from artificial intelligence (AI) ranked first and second, respectively, as the top two risks in the region.
Apart from the Philippines, business interruption also emerged as a significant business risk in China, India, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, and South Korea. Risks stemming from natural catastrophes are also strongly felt in Japan, Malaysia, and Thailand.
Allianz said the risk of business interruption is strongly linked to changes in legislation and regulation, which remained ranked fourth in the region, driven by growing protectionism.
“Commerce is increasingly taking place between geopolitically aligned economies, resulting in new paths in global trade and the emergence of next-generation trade hubs, including Vietnam, Malaysia, and Thailand in the region,” the report read.
It can be recalled that United States (US) President Donald Trump imposed a sweeping tariff hike on America’s trade partners, including the Philippines, whose rate has so far been settled at 19 percent.
Given geopolitical risks that are putting pressure on supply chains, only three percent of Allianz’s survey respondents see their supply chains as “very resilient.”
According to Allianz Trade, the Allianz Group’s trade credit insurance arm, trade restrictions tripled last year, affecting about $2.7 trillion worth of goods—nearly 20 percent of global imports—prompting companies to explore strategies such as friendshoring and regionalization.
These developments have heightened risk perceptions, with nearly a third of respondents ranking business interruption as a top threat, placing it third globally.
On calamities, meanwhile, Allianz noted that the delayed start of the typhoon season led to flooding and landslides, hurting the economy across Asia.
“There has been a significant increase in the intensity of tropical cyclones in recent decades, and these trends are linked to rising ocean temperatures and climate change,” the report added. Climate change retained its sixth ranking in the survey.
Cyber resilience and appetite for cyber risk transfer solutions have increased among large Asian businesses, but Allianz stressed that firms’ overall cyber coverage was generally “lower” relative to their American or European peers.
