The City Government of Manila has received P81.34 million in insurance proceeds from the Government Service Insurance System in connection with the 2023 fire that hit the New Pritil Public Market.
The insurance claim amounting to P81,342,580.52 was officially turned over during the city’s regular flag raising ceremony, which was attended by GSIS President and General Manager Jose Arnulfo “Wick” Veloso and other GSIS officials.
City officials said the turnover reflects the continued support and trust of the national government and its agencies in the City of Manila.
The insurance proceeds cover damages from the fire that struck the New Pritil Public Market in 2023, which affected several stalls and disrupted the livelihood of vendors.
The city government said the funds will be used to support recovery efforts and to help improve public facilities and services, particularly programs that will benefit Batang Maynila.
City officials also expressed gratitude to the GSIS for its assistance, saying the support underscores the importance of partnerships between national government agencies and local governments in responding to disasters.
