Multiple weather systems will continue to affect large parts of the Philippines on Friday, January 2, bringing cloudy skies, scattered rains, and possible flooding and landslides.
Based on the latest weather forecast from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), the shear line is currently affecting Southern Luzon, while the northeast monsoon, or “amihan,” continues to influence Northern and Central Luzon. Meanwhile, easterlies are affecting the rest of the country.
Areas affected by shear line
PAGASA said residents in Western Visayas, Albay, Sorsogon, Masbate, Romblon, Palawan, and Northern Samar can expect cloudy skies with scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms due to the shear line.
The state weather bureau also warned of possible flash floods or landslides, especially in low-lying and mountainous areas, as rains may become moderate to at times heavy.
‘Amihan’ prevails in Luzon regions
PAGASA said the northeast monsoon will bring cloudy skies with rains over Metro Manila, the Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, the rest of Mimaropa, and the rest of the Bicol Region.
These areas also face the risk of flash floods or landslides due to persistent moderate to heavy rainfall, PAGASA said.
Meanwhile, the Ilocos Region will experience cloudy skies with light rains caused by the “amihan,” with no significant weather impacts expected.
Easterlies influence rest of the country
PAGASA said the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to easterlies.
The weather bureau also cautioned that severe thunderstorms could still trigger localized flash floods or landslides.
PAGASA advised the public to monitor official weather updates, take precautionary measures against flooding and landslides, and remain alert, especially in disaster-prone areas.
