DAVAO CITY — Davao City first district Rep. Paolo Duterte has called for more humane, principled, and service-oriented governance in 2026.
In his New Year’s message on Wednesday, Dec. 31, Duterte thanked Filipinos who, he said, continue to stand by, support, and trust the Duterte family despite "persistent noise, attacks, and politicking.”
The Davao City lawmaker acknowledged the Filipino people's continued support for his father, former President Rodrigo Duterte, who is currently detained in The Hague, Netherlands.
Rep. Duterte said the public still remembers the values his father stood for, including discipline, concern for ordinary Filipinos, and courage in addressing national problems.
“He was not perfect, but he was genuine. Not always popular, but guided by principles,” Duterte said.
Duterte said 2025 was a challenging year due to unfulfilled promises, unanswered questions, and the continued hardship by many Filipinos.
Despite these challenges, Duterte emphasized resilience and resolve, stating that surrender was not an option.
As the country enters 2026, he said his hope is for a year that is better than 2025, one that is more humane, more honest, and focused on genuine public service rather than propaganda.
He emphasized the need for leadership centered on action instead of excuses and urged Filipinos to stand firm for truth, justice, and the welfare of the people.
Duterte called for unity in continuing the fight for a Philippines marked by dignity and compassion and wished the people a happy New Year.
