PAGASA: 'Amihan' brings rains, cooler weather over Luzon; easterlies affect Visayas, Mindanao

The northeast monsoon or “amihan” is currently affecting the entire Luzon area, bringing rains and cooler temperatures, while the easterlies are influencing weather conditions over the Visayas and Mindanao, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Friday, Dec. 26.
PAGASA weather specialist Loriedin Dela Cruz-Galicia said the amihan is being felt across Luzon, particularly in northern and central areas.
“Buong Luzon ay affected po ngayon ng northeast monsoon o ng amihan at ito po ay nagdudulot ng mga pag-ulan area, and of course, ‘yung malamig na panahon ay ramdam po sa malaking bahagi ng ating landmass, partikular po rito sa northern Central Luzon at ilang bahagi po ng Southern Luzon (All of Luzon is currently affected by the northeast monsoon or amihan, which is bringing rainy conditions, and the cooler weather is being felt over a large part of the landmass, particularly in northern Central Luzon and some parts of Southern Luzon),” she said.
The weather specialist said the easterlies remain the prevailing weather system over the Visayas and Mindanao, resulting in localized thunderstorms.
“Samantala, sa Visayas at Mindanao, easterlies naman ang nakakaapektong weather system. Nagdudulot pa rin ito ng localized thunderstorms (Meanwhile, in the Visayas and Mindanao, the easterlies are the prevailing weather system. These continue to bring localized thunderstorms),” she said.
Dela Cruz-Galicia added that no low-pressure area (LPA) or tropical cyclone is being monitored within the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).
“Sa ngayon, wala po tayong mino-monitor na LPA okaya namn ay bagyo sa loob ng ating area of responsibility. At least, in the next two to three days, wala rin po tayong inaasahan (At present, we are not monitoring any low-pressure area or storm within our area of responsibility. At least in the next two to three days, we do not expect any).”
